Podiatric Residency Program:
The Department of Veterans Affairs, New Jersey Health Care System, has been providing podiatric residency training since 1988. Since its beginning, over 80 podiatry residents have been trained. Two entry level slots are available per year in a 3-year PM&S-36. The program encompasses the full scope of surgical training in all training years, scrubbing with a vast number of surgical attendings – forefoot, reconstructive rearfoot & ankle including Charcot reconstruction, limb salvage and arthroscopy. The residency program is fully approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education. The next on- site visit is scheduled for the fall of 2012.
Although not a prerequisite, participating in the clerkship program may significantly increase the chance of selection into the residency program, since the clerkship gives the applicant the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. Visitations to the program are also encouraged.
