Podiatric Residency Program

The Department of Veterans Affairs New Jersey Health Care System offers a Podiatric Medicine & Surgery (PM&S-36) residency program, fully approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education.  The program provides a full scope of surgical training in all training years with a vast number of surgical attendings - forefoot, reconstructive rearfoot & ankle including Charcot reconstruction, limb salvage, and arthroscopy.  Competencies are met through a diverse training program at the VA and via multiple local affiliated sites including private hospitals, podiatry offices, surgical centers and the New York College of Podiatric Medicine.  Extensive clinical training is provided in wound management and limb salvage.

The podiatry clinic boasts large, clean, spacious treatment rooms, each with a computer for computerized medical records and digital x-rays, internet access and the "PRESENT" lecture series.  The newly renovated operating room is state-of-the-art.  The program is well established, stable, and since it began in 1988 over 80 residents have been trained.

The program provides a rich array of professional and culture experiences within the hospital and at its affiliated sites in the New York metropolitan area.  Travel times are only 30 minutes to New York City, 45 minutes to the Jersey Shore, 90 minutes to Philadelphia, 4 hours to Boston and 4½ hours to Washington D.C.
